It seems like summer has gone by way too quickly.  It's been a busy time for me.  With the help of my friend and personal trainer, Sarah Shilkey, I was able to get a new meeting room painted, furnished and color coordinated.  She also helped with the new studio space we are working on which is still in limbo because I can seem to find a flooring material I like which is also durable enough for a working studio, kids running around at sessions, and the dog.  I did however manage to finally get grass in the backyard, the brick pavers, and landscaping done thanks to my friend from high school and his business Sticks and Stones Landscaping.   Hopefully if all works well I might actually have time to go Salmon fishing in Tawas City with my brother and newphews in September.

I just wanted to give a huge shout out to my friend and personal trainer Sarah Shilkey.  I photographed Sarah's wedding and we've become great friends over the last year.  With Sarah's help I've managed to drop just over 100lbs as of Jan 1st.

A little background on this story:  I had a horrible case of Sleep Apnea back in 2004-2005 and I had gained a ton of weight.  I couldn't do anything but sleep almost 23 hours a day in total but I wasn't getting restful sleep due to the Sleep Apnea.   The only way to stay awake was to keep eating and eating. I gained so much weight that my joints hurt all the time and my muscles had atrophied and were so weak i could barely get out of a chair without using my arms to push myself up.  I had managed to bring back some muscle mass on my own but by December of last year I was just fed up with lack of progress.  I was fat, diabetic and had high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I would get tingling in my legs all the time from poor circulation.

Fast forward to today.  Only 8 months after starting to work out with Sarah and following her changes to my diet and I'm no longer diabetic or even at risk of being diabetic, my blood pressure is perfect, my cholesterol is so low my doctor was shocked and I'm lower than anyone I know, and I have no more issues with any sort of aches and pains related to being out of shape.  I also have more energy and I'm super strong now.  Eight months of lifting weights and I can pick up and move any furniture in the house without a problem and running up and down stairs isn't even an effort anymore.  I feel so great now I've even started to burn off this extra energy in a Kung Fu class.
